Overview
Chellaram Diabetes Research Centre (CDRC) is an initiative of Chellaram Foundation and Chellaram Diabetes Institute to encourage quality research in India and to provide Research Grants to talented scientific researchers in transforming their research ideas into actual projects on therapeutic, diagnostic, prophylactic and implementation areas of Diabetes and its complications, after a detailed independent review and assessment of Research Proposals.
The Chellaram Foundation is a public charitable “Not-For-Profit” organization established in 2008 in memory of Late Kishinchand Chellaram and Late Bhai Lokumal Kishinchand Chellaram. Chellaram Foundation is geared to create an impact on the lives of people with diabetes through its various initiatives.
Chellaram Diabetes Institute, a unit of Chellaram Foundation, established in 2010 with the main objective of creating an IMPACT on the rising cases of Diabetes in India. This objective is sought to be achieved through main pillars - Patient Care, Education, Awareness, Outreach and Research.

Chellaram Hospital - Diabetes Care and Multispecialty:
A “State of the art” Diabetes care and multispecialty hospital in Pune since 2010.
An establishment of excellence for educational activities of doctors and paramedics through direct and online courses.
A patient-friendly bi-monthly English magazine called “Diabetes Health” since 2011.
A mobile clinic-based rural outreach program providing advanced diagnostics and basic awareness of Diabetes to the underprivileged rural population of Pune/Ahmednagar, covering 900+ villages and 130,000+ subjects.
CDI has to its credit several research publications in peer-reviewed journals, as well as presentations in various national and international conferences. The research division carries out epidemiological studies, basic research and clinical trials to understand the pathophysiology of the disease and its therapeutic targets.

Mr. Lal L. Chellaram
Chairman, The Chellaram Foundation.
Qualified as an Economist from London University. He is an Entrepreneur and a Philanthropist. He is also the Chairman of the Chellaram Group. Mr. Chellaram initiated the Group’s diversification into Ship Owning and Ship Operations in the late 70’s. He established the Chellaram Foundation in India and several Charities worldwide
Mr. Prakash Bhoopatkar
Vice-Chairman, The Chellaram Foundation.
Chartered Accountant and a Management Consultant, Trustee and Vice-Chairman of Chellaram Foundation . He has had an international career in Management at the most senior levels in Finance and Organisation Development working in India, Hong Kong , Gibraltar and New Zealand. He is a Director and Vice Chairman of a range of organisations across a number of business segments
Mr. Sankara Narayanan
Sankara is a Chartered and Cost Accountant with senior management experience in a variety of industries including shipping, trading, healthcare and investments. He is a director of the Chellaram Diabetes Institute as well as a number of other Chellaram group companies.
Sankara has spearheaded setting up several healthcare projects and implemented an extensive outreach programme to deliver basic healthcare to remote villages in India.
He has also been involved in overseeing the redevelopment and expansion of schools and deeply involved in the administration of large sized educational institutions in India. He has been instrumental in organising student scholarship programs in rural areas in India.
Dr.A.G.Unnikrishnan
CEO, Chellaram Diabetes Institute.
MD, DM (Endocrinology), DNB, MNAMS. Dr AG Unnikrishnan is a renowned endocrinologist and CEO of Chellaram Diabetes Institute. Formerly the Professor of Endocrinology at Amrita Institute, he has published the largest multicenter study of subjects with pancreatitis and pancreatic diabetes, in addition to his more than 90 indexed publications. He has received the Subash Mukherjee Oration award of the Endocrine Society of India, and the Srivastava Award of the RSSDI (India’s largest diabetes society) for his contribution to diabetes in India. He has also received the Jacob Memorial Prize for the best patient care awarded by the Christian Medical College, Vellore, in 1998.

Dr.Anil Pandit
Experienced Qualified Hosp Administrator from Defence back ground with academic , administrative experience of about 41 years. He has got experience of PG Teaching (Pune University Recognised PG Teacher, Examiner), Examiner for DNB in Hosp Admin of National Exam Board of India. Recognised Professor in Hospital Administration by MCI. PhD Guide & Examiner in Healthcare & Hospital Administration
